Membrane systems are based on the presence of semi permeable membranes. The membranes act as a filter allowing water to flow through while rejecting suspended solids and other soluble substances such as minerals. In pure water treatment, they are generally used for demineralisation. Membrane systems operate with minimal chemical to no chemical usage.
